Check out this video of the Wenatchee area Rotary clubs being "Happy": http://youtu.be/-UVUVFaaWbA.
We had several of our members there, so see if you can spot them.
Every Tuesday at 7:00 am, join us at the Wenatchee Red Lion. You'll hear a friendly greeting, accompanied by a warm smile and a handshake. We are an organization made up of professional business people whose main goal is service through our friendships and our vocations. Come see what we are all about.
Jim H. introduced Beth Stipe, Executive Director of the Community Foundation of NCW (CFNCW), who talked about the foundation, and our club foundation. The CFNCW manages charitable endowments, which have grown to $58 M in the 30 years of its existence. About 150 scholarships totaling $500,000 were awarded last year from 1500 applications
Greta Schock was sponsored by our club this past year as a youth exchange student to Brazil. She showed pictures and talked about her year in Brazil. The highlight was meeting all the people, and youth exchange students from around the world. Her year included trips to many places in Brazil and the Amazon, as well as to neighboring countries. Greta also talked about the culture, food, and wildlife. She really enjoyed her year, and was very appreciative of Rotary, and our club. Great left right after the meeting for Colorado University, where she will be attending this year.
Jim H. introduced Pat Jones, Executive Director of the Port of Moses Lake, who talked about that port district. The mission of port districts is to support the economic development of the area. At Moses Lake, there are many industries located around the air field, which is the second longest in the western US. The are concentrating on flight training and other aircraft related industries, but have several others, including Union Carbide, Western Kraft, International Titanium, American Foods, and Genie Industries. The airfield is also used by every military branch. Get more information at www.historylink.org.

Several of our members were on hand Saturday to help give away school supplies to around 1000 children in grades K-12. Kids came to different booths where information was available on related health issues. Staff from Columbia Valley Community Health and other organizations that promote good health were on hand to answer questions as kids picked up their supplies. Every kid was given a backpack, paper, notebook, pencils, folders, ruler, erasers, etc.
On Thursday, some of our members and spouses joined with other Rotarians from our area for a picnic with DG Bruce and Donna. It was a great time of fun, food, and fellowship.
DG Bruce Falkins and his wife Donna from Kelowna, BC, made their official visit to our club last Tuesday. Bruce was introduced by Assistant Governor Robb Tidd. Bruce talked about having pride in Rotary, and gave his story. He also talked about RI President Gary Huang's focus this year on growing our clubs, the importance of membership, and how to attract new members.
Bruce also encouraged everyone to come to the District Training Weekend in Osoyoos, BC, on Oct. 31-Nov. 1, and to the District Conference on June 18-21 in Kelowna, BC. Both are opportunities to meet Rotarians from around the district, to learn more about Rotary, enjoy a family outing, see a beautiful part of Canada, and make new friends. Our club has funds to help pay for registrations for these events.
Alan Walker presented Leonard with the Mark Anderson Presidential Service Award ("Marky" Award), which is given each year to a member who exemplifies service above self. The winner was announced at the changeover dinner in June, but Leonard was recovering from surgery at that time. Leonard has been our club historian for many years, and has been regular in his attendance at our meetings.
